10/08/2010—CALL FOR PROPOSALS

On the occa­sion of the 20th anniver­sary of the estab­lish­ment of the Visegrad Group (see more on the first Visegrad Summit), the International Visegrad Fund in coop­er­a­tion with the four respec­tive for­eign min­istries plan to mark the anniver­sary with a pub­lic debate and accom­pa­ny­ing events which are to take place in Brussels, Belgium in February 2011. Proposals are accepted until 16 September 2010.

The International Visegrad Fund announces a call for pro­pos­als for Visegrad+ projects towards the Republic of Georgia in the fol­low­ing areas:

  1. Vocational Training Reform and Vocational Training for IDPs
  2. Sharing V4 Experience with the EU Integration: Legislation Reform and Cooperation with NGOs
  3. Sharing V4 Know-How on Decentralization of Administration Structures

Visegrad Scholarship at Open Society Archives

The International Visegrad Fund (IVF) launches a new pro­gram of research fel­low­ships at the Open Society Archives (OSA) at the Central European University in Budapest. Heads of both institutions—IVF’s Executive Director Petr Vágner and OSA’s Director István Rév—signed the con­tract in the pres­ence of the Czech Foreign Minister Jan Kohout in Prague ear­lier today. The pro­gram will offer 8 fel­low­ships annu­ally to schol­ars, researchers and jour­nal­ists from the Visegrad Group (V4) coun­tries and 2 annual fel­low­ships to non-V4 appli­cants. The International Visegrad Fund hosted a visit of 20 young diplo­mats from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland yes­ter­day. The Fund’s rep­re­sen­ta­tives held a pre­sen­ta­tion and a dis­cus­sion about the struc­ture and activ­i­ties of the Visegrad Group and of the International Visegrad Fund.

The Council of Ambassadors approved yes­ter­day the nom­i­na­tion of Mr. Luboš Veselý as the Honorary Trustee of the International Visegrad Fund for Ukraine. Mr. Veselý will be based at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Kyiv and will pro­mote the Fund’s activ­i­ties in Ukraine and pro­vide con­sul­ta­tions to Ukrainian applicants.

Scholars Eligible for Travel Grants

Please take note of the updated Rules of the Visegrad Scholarship Program approved by the Conference of Ministers (CA) on 12 November 2009. Among other changes, the CA approved the launch of travel grants as part of the scholarships—any scholar whose host uni­ver­sity is fur­ther than 1,500 km from his/her present uni­ver­sity or employer is eligible.

The unique quintlin­gual book project called Visegrád 1335 brings in a sin­gle pub­li­ca­tion the col­lec­tion of the 14th-century char­ters which inspired the mod­ern coop­er­a­tion in cen­tral Europe—the Visegrad Group. The book also con­tains a study into the his­tor­i­cal back­ground. All pub­lic schools and libraries can request a copy of the book here.

As of today Mr. Petr Vágner assumes duties as the Executive Director of the International Visegrad Fund replac­ing Amb. Kristóf Forrai whose 3-year mis­sion ended in July 2009. Mr. Vágner is the first rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the Czech Republic in the position.

22/06/2009—Sums for Small/Standard Grants Raised by €1,000

The Council of Ambassadors approved rais­ing the max­i­mum sup­ported sum for Small Grants to €5,000. Correspondingly, the min­i­mum sum for projects within the Standard Grants is raised to €5,001. The new rules are valid as of today, i.e. the new sums apply first to the September dead­lines of Small and Standard Grants.

The work of the International Visegrad Fund was praised by the prime min­is­ters of the Visegrad Group coun­tries at the annual sum­mit in Wieliczka (PL) yes­ter­day. The deci­sion was taken to increase the coun­tries’ annual con­tri­bu­tions to the Fund’s bud­get by €250,000, amount­ing to the total bud­get of €6 million.

The Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs decided on 24 November 2008 that the rules of the Visegrad Scholarship Program (VSP) are applic­a­ble to Kosovar schol­ars, i.e. Kosovar schol­ars are eli­gi­ble for Visegrad schol­ar­ships within the In-Coming Scheme.
